The Magic Bird
The mystical bronze bird of the sculptor Ghazi Al-Delaimi appears to glide away gently and gracefully like the calligraphy of an Arabian character. The birds wings dancing in the wind like filmy veils behind which the harem of the Sultan is concealed. The artistic head appears to change into a holy minaret and one’s eyes mount the steps of a palace into the sanctuary that lies secret behind the wings of the magic bird.
The magic bird from Ghazi Al-Delaimi’s Arabian Nights Edition, which led Sinbad into a diamond mountain, is a most unusual and calligraphic-like sculpture based on the myth of the thousand and one nights, which the Arabian sculptor Al-Delaimi created for the “Arabian World” exhibition at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2004 and which is still rated today a masterpiece of modern Arabian art. Each bronze is an original casting from the artist's master form.
