The Icon with the Guardian Angel

The edition of this guardian angel icon is carried out under the patronage of the Autenried Castle icon museum.

The original icon for this edition is a very rare Orthodox believer’s work of art from Central Russia from around 1870. Inscribed above the angel’s head is the title “Holy Guardian Angel”. In his hands the guardian angel holds the benediction cross of the Lord together with the spear and the staff with the sponge of vinegar from the Golgotha narrative. The two inscriptions to the left and right bear the text “The cross of the Lord is the protection in the night” and “The sword is the protection during the day”.

The halo of the Guardian Angel is worked in 24 carat gold leaf. The angel himself is borne on a cloud and the full image of the holy painting is drawn on to dark wood. Mounted on the back of the icon is the official certificate with the seal of the museum.
