In 1984 Thierry Noir painted - at times in mortal danger - the first paintings on the Berlin Wall, this dreadful symbol of the devided city of Berlin. Later he was followed by a whole army of painters and sprayers whereby the wall received an additional symbolic power for the divided city. Today the wall no longer exists. When the wall was opened in 1989, it was soon totally dismantled - more rapidly than anyone could have imagined - by thousands of so-called "wallpeckers" from all over the world.
